Tin Can Lanterns

Here is a great creative craft for the entire family! You can use these cute little lanterns to add some aesthetic and decoration to your campsite.

What you’ll need

  • Tin Cans
  • Hammer
  • Nail
  • Bailing wire
  • pliers
  • tea light candle
  • spray paint

Step 1 – Remove labels and glue from cans. (WD-40 helps!)

Step 2- Fill cans with water and freeze them until ice is solid.

Step 3- Using a nail and hammer pound two holes across from one another near the top of the can.

Step 4- Make your design. You can choose to draw it out on the can before or freehand. Use a hammer and a nail to begin punching out your design.

Step 5 – Once you have finished punching out your design leave the can until all the ice has melted out of it.

Step 6- Use a hammer to pound the bulge on the bottom of the can down so it sits flat. This is from freezing the water in the can.

Step 7- Cut a 12 inch strip of bailing wire, creating a hook at the end by curving the wire. Stick the hook through the top side holes that were made in step 3, and twist the hook to secure it.

Step 9 – Paint several coats over the can and the handle

Step 10 – Insert tea candle, light and enjoy!
